Baltimore

Words and music copyright ã 1984 by Ram Sudama

            G                                             C
[verse] Gotta get back up to Baltimore, that's what my heart is yearning for.

 G                                       C

I left my family waiting there. Come down South to work my share.

                       G                                               C

[chorus] I said, "Lady-little-lady-little-lady-la-day, gotta get back most any way."

           G                                      C

I said, "Little-lady-little-lady-la-die, gotta get back there before I die."

[verse] Strolling on down Calvert Street, what a lot of old friends to meet.

Smiling, waving, taking time, to make each other feel so fine.

 <chorus>

[verse] People there ain't got no worry, got no fluster, got no flurry.

Setting up on them marble steps - such a sight, I can't forget.

 <chorus>

[verse] I remember them happy days - seems so long since I been away.

Won't you help me, please dear Lord, to get back up to Baltimore?

 <chorus>

Cold, Cold, Ground

Words and music copyright ã 1984 by Ram Sudama

Am9              Cmaj9           Am9                             Cmaj9

A ragged hobo asked me why the sun is growing darker day by day.

Am                    G                                  F                             G

I looked it up in a book I read, it said, "The good Lord meant it to be that way."

Am                                G             Am

So spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

Am                            G             Am

Spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

C                            D

I see the water rising all around.

F                                    G            Am

So spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

Church bells ringing in the wind. A lonely train passing by at night.

The conductor waved me to come on board, I said, "Something don't seem to be quite right."

So spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

Spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

When the clock-spring has come unwound,

just spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

You thought your magic show would mystify, and make you famous for eternity.

But I think this whole universe is the biggest trick that you played on me.

So spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

Spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

When all is lost, and it can't be found,

just spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

Spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

Spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

When they bring my body back to town,

just spread my ashes on the cold, cold ground.

Not everybody has a right to be there

Think twice before you make your accusations

Someday the finger may be pointing back at you

Free the people…

[verse] Free the people from themselves

They don’t know what they’re doing to each other

It’s not right to set your expectations

For everyone to think and act like you

Free the people…

There’s a war zone right there in the classroom

You can’t learn when you’re looking on your shoulder

Guns and knives will take away their lives

I wanta tell you what life is doing to me.

I’ve gotta feeling this ain’t the way it should be.

I’ve got a problem. You’ve got one, too.

It’s getting clear to me now, that half my problem is you.

Let’s talk about it; get out what’s going inside.

Just scream and shout it; then there’ll be nothing to hide.

If you feel angry, just lay it on me.

I’ll lay it right back on you, cause that’s how it has to be.

How Can It Be?

Words and music copyright ã 1987 by Ram Sudama

F9                                                  Bbmaj7

Hey, look at that big bright sun, just a-settin on the sea.

F9                                            Bbmaj7

And hear that pretty bird, singing so high in the tree.

Dm                      D7

Would it ever be so grand,

                                         Gm

if this whole world had been planned

                         Fdim

by some ordinary hand?

                   Bb   B      C

Well, tell me, how can it be?

Every house should be a place to call a home.

But deep inside there's someone feeling so alone.

Even hate must have a heart.

It's true love can come apart.

But if we're afraid to start,

tell me, how can it be?

Someone is up, someone is feeling kinda low.

Everyone who comes here someday needs a place to go.

Make the best of what you can.

But don't ignore a needy friend,

or you'll have nothing in the end.

Tell me, how can it be?

I hear folks complaining how their life is going bad,

instead of being grateful for the good that they have had.

I don't like to hang around when things are out of line.

I could be like that myself, but I ain't got the time.

I ain't got the time to waste in worry or in woe,

talking 'bout my troubles while the good things come and go.

I just can't stand to sit here pretending to be kind,

'cause that could take my whole durn life, and I ain't got the time.

What's the use of wailing when your back is to the wall.

You better save what you have left, or you could lose it all.

You built those walls around you, then you put yourself behind.

I wish that I could help you out, but I ain't got the time.

It's not that I'm uncaring, 'cause I know life has its stings.

It's just that I can't see the point in harping on your strings.

The tighter that you tune yourself, the more you feel the bind.

I'd like to help untie that knot, but I ain't got the time.

I feel my Self; I feel my Self; I feel my Self coming down.

We take no prisoners, to keep us strong.

I feel my Self; I feel my Self; I feel my Self going wrong.

[verse] No craven images before my eyes.

The sun diminishes into the skies.

I feel my Self; I feel my Self; I feel my Self telling lies.

I Wonder If She Still Be Mine

verse:             G         E7        C (B Bb) A7

chorus:           Em      A         Em      A

[verse] I saw my baby, late last night.

You know she didn't really treat me right,

and now I wonder, if she still be mine.

[verse] I got up, and went to bed,

and dreamed of all the crazy things we said,

and now I wonder, if she still be mine.

[chorus]  'Cause if she left me, I would worry all day long

if there's any other girl who love me like she do.

[verse] I'd like to meet her face to face.

But what if someone else was in my place?

And I would wonder, if she still be mine.

[verse] If she was out with any Dick or Dave

I know there’s nothing I could really save,

but I’d wonder, if she still be mine.

(I'd lay her pretty body in the grave,

and I would wonder, if she still be mine.)

chorus:           D         G         D         G

                       D         G         D         G

[verse] I'm so grateful that you left me.

You got up and walked right out the door.

But I'm so grateful that you left me,

'cause I don't have your heartaches anymore.

[chorus] You left me here, without a tear.

It hurt me so, to see you go.

But now I laugh, to think I cried,

when everything I need is here inside.

[verse] And I'm so grateful that you left me.

Now I know how peaceful life can be.

I'm so grateful that you left me.

I'm grateful that you set my spirit free.

[chorus] You were in your mind, most all the time.

What could I do, to pull you through?

The more I gave, the more you took.

And now you found yourself some other shnook.

[verse] And I'm so grateful that you left me.

To make you happy was a full-time job.

I'm so grateful that you left me.

You left me a chance to go to God.

There's no pain, and there's no suffering in Your world.

There's no thought of fear of anything in Your world.

In Your world, there's no selfishness or greed.

In Your world, all living creatures have been freed.

We all care, when all share in Your world.

There's no crime, and there's no slavery in Your world.

There is courage, strength, and bravery in Your world.

In Your world, none of the animals are harmed.

In Your world, there's no fire, flood, or storm.

We all give, when all live in Your world.

There's no hate, and there's no violence in Your world.

All unite to protect the innocent, in Your world.

In Your world, there's no fighting, there's no war.

In Your world, there is peace forevermore.

It's so near, it's so clear in Your world.

Just What You Are

Hey, Miss Using, now what's the confusion with you?

Oh, Mister Feelin, seems like you're stealin it too.

When I saw you together in the house of romance,

so engrossed in each other, you were lost in a trance,

then I knew if I touched you I was taking a chance

that you would wake up -- and see just what you are.

Just what you are, just what you are, just what you are.

Hey, protester, the jester is laughing at you.

I know everything's wrong, but it won't take so long to undo.

And then after we give you the reins in your hand

you'll be off at a gallop while the rest of us stand

by the side of the highway, hoping not to get banned

when you finally wake up -- and see just what you are.

Just what you are, just what you are, just what you are.

<guitar solo over entire verse>

Some take it easy, and some take it hard as a rock.

Some take it slowly, and some beat the hands off the clock.

Well, the way that you take it, it's all up to you.

I'm not trying to tell you the right thing to do.

But if I ask you the meaning, and I give you a clue,

will you finally wake up -- and see just what you are?

Just what you are, just what you are, just what you are.

Little Miss Treatin, has your life been beating you down?

Did you lose all the pleasures while burying treasures you found?

There's not much to tell, you don't already know.

No matter how someone might wish it weren't so.

The only thing left now, before the next show,

is to finally wake up -- and see just what you are.

Just what you are, just what you are, just what you are.

Keep It Simple

Words and music copyright ã 1982 by Ram Sudama

                        Dm      C         G         Bb       (3 times)

                        Bb       A7

[verse]  As dawn turns into morning, and day rolls into night,

I'm caught in things this circle brings that just won't come out right.

I'm trying to untie all the tangles, and see where the secret is locked.

I better unwind all the strings of my mind, put everything back in the box.

[chorus] Keep it simple - don't let it get out of hand.

Keep it simple - life is at your command.

[verse]  When things get too hot in the kitchen, I start looking round for the door.

I wish that I knew when it's time that I blew,or if I should come back for more.

There's too many pans in the fire, and not enough cooks in the pot.

I'm better off being just what I am than somebody else that I'm not.

<chorus>

[verse]  When so many people are talking, I lose myself in the buzz.

My head will spin round and round again, and I can't even think who I was.

It don't really seem so important to say every word on your mind.

You're better off keeping the world in the dark than making it clear that you're blind.

Last Time Around

Words and music copyright ã 1976 by Ram Sudama

verse:              Dmaj7 Em7    '/,

                        Dmaj7 C         G

                        Dmaj7 Em7    '/,

chorus:            A         G         A         G         A         G         D

                        (Em     F#m     G         A         D)

[verse]  When we're little girls and boys, we play with our tinker toys,

never thinking what our lives might hold.

We while away the precious hours, watching birds and picking flowers;

habits we still have when we grow old.

[chorus] Well I've been through that door, oh, so many times before,

and each time more and more I've found:

things don't have to be that way, we can change them day by day,

and this could be the last time around.

[verse]  When we are young it seems our lives are filled with dreams,

hoping all the world will go our way.

Later on we try for less, settle for the second best,

knowing even that will slip away.

<chorus>

[verse]  We get all wound up inside, taking the greatest pride

in proving we can make it on our own.

Why is it we can't see through our unreality?

When it's over, we'll be left alone.

<chorus>

[verse]  We go chasing everything, doing what we think will bring

all the feelings we would like to feel.

But the joy that we can find turns to sadness over time,

taking with it all the love we steal.

There's a fire raging deep inside of my soul.

It started burning a long, long time ago.

But now my poor heart is aching

at the thought that you might be taking

everything that you need.

You're really making me bleed.

Baby, leave me something, something to carry on.

You used to look at me like I could never do no wrong.

It seemed to me that our love was coming on strong.

Now I find my own eyes peeking

to see if you might be sneaking

everything that you can from some other man.

Baby, leave me something, something to carry on.

When you held me I felt like the world was mine.

As if I could really try to stop it in time.

But now my whole body's shaking

at the thought that you might be making

everything that we had turn to be so bad.

Baby, leave me something, something to carry on.

Like Frozen Tears

Words and music copyright ã 1986 by Ram Sudama

verse:             F          Am/E   Dm7    F/C      Bbmaj7           F

                        F          Am/E   Dm7    F/C      G         C

chorus:           Bb9     F          Am      Bb9     G         C

[verse]  Like frozen tears, your deepest fears are someday bound to melt.

The change will come, and when it's done please tell me how it felt.

[chorus] I still don't know why autumn's glow gives way to winter's frost.

The springtime comes, then summer's done and all the years are lost.

[verse]  The more we live, the more we love, the more we pass along.

The joy and pain, our heart's refrain, would make the sweetest song

[chorus] I just can't see how it could be that night turns into day.

The sun rolls on, and when it's gone the time has slipped away.

[verse]  As we grow, the things we know will somehow start to fade.

It's only fair -- why should we care who won the games we played?

You know I've been drifting, since that ship went down.

I need a star to guide me, where I might be found.

But those stars just stare at me, they've got troubles of their own.

And I'll sail on.

Waves wash me up and down some almighty plan.

From every peak I search desparately for land.

It's not that I feel lost at sea, I just don't know where I am.

And I'll sail on. I'll sail on.

Blankets of darkness, pulled across the sky,

let another yesterday pass me in the night.

With all this water 'round me now, it won't do no good to cry.

So I'll sail on. I'll sail on, yeah. I'll sail on, and on, and on.

Meet me at the laundromat, we can both come clean.

Meet me at the laundromat, and answer all my dreams.

We'll make conversation while they're pressing my pants.

Baby, before you know it, we'll have a perma-prest romance.

Meet me at the laundromat, on the corner of 5th and Vine.

Meet me at the laundromat, baby, you're looking fine.

You use my detergent, I can borrow your starch.

The shoe shine boy in the corner is humming the wedding march.

Needles In A Haystack

Words copyright ã 1971 by Ram Sudama

           Em

[verse] The naked, aging cowboy lies, across the ruins of the skies,

Em                                                        G

and shoots himself between the eyes while dying.

Em

And though he has no love to spend, I know that he will come again

Em                                               D

to prophesize the doom of men who laughed at him.

             G                                     F

[chorus] Needles in a haystack, why can’t we find a way back

    C                      D

to what we were, or shoulda been (shoulda been)?

[verse] The circus clown reflects the joy of every little girl and boy,

and then rejects the only toy they gave him.

Still he smiles, behind the mask, at questions he will never ask,

for the Prince of Peace has come at last to save him.

<chorus>

[verse] The apples roll across the floor, and though they're rotten to the core,

we lick them up, and beg for more, and get them.

But not the lonely garbage man who holds the world between his hands,

and still believes he understands the blessing.

<chorus>

[verse] A flash across the TV screen, a distant Persian market scene,

reminds me all I've said or been is wasted.

Still, I lie here on the floor, despite the knocking on the door,

(I wait to double-check the score)

revisiting the only whore I've tasted.

Nothing's For The Taking

Words and music copyright ã 1986 by Ram Sudama

verse:             G         D         C         F          C         D

                        G         D         C         F          C         G

                        Em      Am      C         C         G

                        Em      Am      F          C         G

chorus:           G         Em      D         D         Am      C         G         ‘/,

[verse] Well, I met a funny man with a six-gun in his hand

    - I could have sworn I'd seen his face before.

He motioned with a jeer at all the people I should fear

and tried to sell my brothers into war.

But he couldn't seem to understand why a poor boy like me

would rather not be counted with the dead.

So I wrote across the sky in letters ten foot high,

a message that I'm sure he's never read.

[chorus] It said, "Nothing, nothing's for the taking. In this life there ain’t no special deal.

Nothing, nothing's for the taking. You can't get out from underneath the wheel."

[verse] I came upon a sage from another golden age,

with words of wisdom flowing from his eyes.

He promised to enlighten me, and I was set to buy it,

but I backed out when he told me the price.

I'm enjoying every minute now, and I can't imagine why

a man would want to trade away his soul.

He said, "Some call that happiness, but what you cannot see

would scare you more that you would like to know.”

[chorus] He said, "Nothing, nothing's for the taking. There's a pain in everything you feel.

Nothing, nothing's for the taking. You can't get out from underneath the wheel."

[verse] I saw a pretty lady on the corner of the street,

trying not to look like she was bored.

She waved a magic wand at me, and I turned the other way,

cause she was selling things I can't afford.

Now, it might not seem like much to some, but for a poor boy like me

to let your hard-earned money slip away,

that would be the greatest sin, my daddy would agree,

cause I can still remember when he'd say:

[chorus] He said, "Nothing, nothing's for the taking. You have to pay for everything you steal.

Nothing, nothing's for the taking. You can't get out from underneath the wheel."

[verse] Well, I ran into a patriot, out marching from the bridge.

He told me of the battles he had won.

I'm sure that they will hear his shots all around the world

    - if there's any world that's left when he is done.

Now, I'm a freedom loving man, and I told him I would fight

to help protect the things we know are true.

But I'm not really sure I want to be indivisible,

if it means that I would have to think like you.

[chorus] I said, "Nothing, nothing's for the taking. All that lies before you isn't real.

Nothing, nothing's for the taking. You can't get out from underneath the wheel."

They're making such a stink cause we're in the pink again.

But it's all right, honey, there's nothing for you to defend.

[break] We're moving to the left, we're moving to the right.

The more we let it loose, the more we get it tight.

Oh baby, politicians get me down.

They take your money, honey, and spread it all over town.

<guitar solo over verse and break>

[verse] The time is gonna come when I ain't gonna care no more.

I'll leave it in the sun, and dry it on the ocean floor.

Well, it's so cheap, they're gonna sell it in a corner store.

[break] We're moving to the front, we're moving to the back.

We're gonna let a joker be the leader of the pack.

(We're gonna get a bag and give em all the sack)

Oh baby, politicians get me down.

They take your money, honey, and spread it all over town.

They take you're money, honey, and spread it all over...

[chorus] I don't need you, but oh, honey, I want you.

And though I may not have a lot to give right now,

there's many secrets to confide.

I know your heartland might feel empty, but there's a treasure yet to find.

to guide me onward through the night, and lead me back where I could love you.

I see people standing, where my thoughts are landing

on a distant planet. I wanna go there, dammit.

But I can be sure if I do, you’re gonna be there, too,

making me pay for having taken the ride, just to be there by your side.

It’s not a comfort to me, to be in your movie,

cause every time you want me it comes back to haunt me.

And I can be sure if I go, you’re gonna steal the show.

Changing the lines so you wouldn’t have lied about the fans being on your side.

Now a storm is brewing, over what you’re doing.

I’m gonna find the secret, no matter where you keep it.

And if I have to run, you’re gonna have some fun

riding the waves and holding back the tide, just to be there by my side.

Sucking on my feelings, and tearing me inside.

Now I don’t want to be one, but what else can I do.

Teenage Wicked Monsters are making me like you.

Teenage Wicked Monsters are ripping me apart.

They started in my stomach and they’re moving to my heart.

If this is love, I got it bad, I’m burning in the heat.

Teenage Wicked Monsters have taken me complete -- ly.

Teenage Wicked Monsters are getting to my head.

I don’t know if I’m really here or if I’m really dead.

It hurts me to conceive of something bigger than myself.

Teenage Wicked Monsters are making my life hell.

Teenage Wicked Monsters are chewing on my brain.

I think my nuts are cracking up -- I can’t endure the pain.

It doesn’t really help to know that you’re a victim too.

Teenage Wicked Monsters are still going to unscrew -- my -- head.

[verse]  If I was a bird, I'd sail into the sun when the morning comes.

I'd fly so high, I never would be come down for anyone.

[chorus] That's the way to be happy, that's the way to be free.

That's the way to be what you are, and that's the way to be me.

[verse]  If I was a fish, I'd swim beneath the sea for eternity.

I'd dive so deep, I never would be found, just a memory.

I'd take my time, and grow into a tree with rings around.

I'd pass away, and never would return back into the world.

The Force Be With You

Words and music copyright ã 1985 by Ram Sudama

           G                 Am7   C                   Em7

[verse] All across the galaxy people just like you and me

       C            F                 C         G

may wonder, "Where do we go from here?"

G                            Am7             C                         Em7

If we could somehow see the light - take one wrong and make it right

C                          F        C        G

then the rest would start becoming clear.

             G                F                             C                   G

[chorus] The Force be with you when you're driving in your car.

G                 F                             C                 G

The Force be with you when you're swinging on a star.

G                 F                             C             Em7

The Force be with you when you're taken for a ride.

F                 C                     G

The Force be with you deep inside.

[verse]  I can't really understand how things have gotten out of hand

and no one has the answers that I need.

Let's take time to smell the roses (that must be why we have noses)

then we'll know what's growing from the seed.

[chorus] The Force be with you when you're walking on the street.

The Force be with you when you're trying to beat the heat.

The Force be with you when you're taking things in stride.

The Force be with you deep inside.

[verse]  Sometimes doing something new I get a touch of deja vu

then I feel like we've been here before.

But if we're on another round why can't we get things off the ground

instead of walking backwards through the door?

[chorus] The Force be with you when you lose another hand.

The Force be with you when things aren't the way you planned.

The Force be with you when you drop your foolish pride.

The Force be with you deep inside.

[verse]  No matter how our fingers burn we just never seem to learn

so maybe we take pleasure from the pain.

Well, if that's how it's got to be, next time please don't count on me

cause I don't want to live that way again.

[chorus] The Force be with you when you're feeling all alone.

The Force be with you when you're trying to move a stone.

The Force be with you when you swim against the tide.

The Force be with you deep inside.

[chorus] The Force be with you when you're feeling kind of low.

The Force be with you when you take another blow.

The Force be with you when your love has been denied.

The Force be with you deep inside.

Think About It

Words and music copyright ã 1987 by Ram Sudama

verse:              G         C         '/,

                        F          C         D

                        G         C         '/,

                        Em      Am      Bm      C         D

Why talk about love? You don't know what I'm thinking of.

And don't go on about peace. You don't really want to cease.

Why waste my time, trying to change your mind?

Think about it. Oh, think about it.

What happened to Soul? Everybody's getting old.

But it goes on and on. Seems like it's just begun.

We used to Rock and Roll. At least, that's what I've been told.

It seemed so pure and fine, now it's just another line.

Don't try to sell me truth. They already closed the booth.

And those that need it most have left here for the coast.

If I tell you straight, you'll say I'm preaching hate. So think about it.

Think about it all night long. You'll still be the same at dawn.

Think about it til you die. You won't change if you don't try.

Think about it, whole life through. The way things are is up to you.

Think You’re Cool

Words and music copyright ã 1995 by Ram Sudama

            A         A         D         A

            G         G         D         A

You think you’re cool, you and your friends,

cause you break all the rules, and you make no amends.

But you got no feeling and you got no heart.

You’ve replaced Richard Nixon as the man without a part.

You think you’re groovy cause you’re into the loop,

but to anyone real that don’t mean poop.

You think you’re wicked and you think you’re mean,

but it’s not just you, it’s where you’ve been.

You put yourself here, you made this life.

You got no one to blame if it don’t feel right.

It’s not fate, it’s not the luck of the draw.

It’s not fate that made you what you are.

Every moment’s a choice, it’s another decision,

and you make them blind when you lack the vision.

True Blues

            C         C7       G         D         Db

            C         A7       G         C7

You said that you got no shoes, but I know why you sing the blues.

You're lonely cause you couldn't find a friend.

Someone to keep you happy to the end.

Well, it's nice to have someone to love, but that will never be enough

unless you're true to yourself, so won't you please be true.

People come and people go, some stay for the second show.

But they will finally leave you on your own.

It doesn't really hurt to be alone.

Cause there's a friend inside your heart, and you will never be apart

if you're true to yourself, so won't you please be true.

I don't know, but I've been told, you're gonna die when you get old.

They're gonna come and take you by the hand.

And you will never finish what you planned.

But don't feel bad if things look down, cause you'll be up next time around

if you're true to yourself, so won't you please be true.

Just be true to you, that's all you gotta do.

[verse] When the lights go down, and you’re feeling kinda cold -

look out, it might just be the weather.

But the shivers start to take you out of control -

just thank God that we’re together.

[chorus] Let’s get a fire going here inside our hearts,

with fingers climbing right up to the moon.

It’s getting time for us to make another start.

Come on, baby, let’s turn the heat on.

[verse] Well, Jack Frost is out there nipping at your nose,

but don’t let it get too deep inside you.

There’s a soft breeze blowing right on through your clothes.

Seems like there’s no place left to hide you.

So twinkle your moonbeams, and show me where you are.

I want you, momma, more than I can say.

I want you, momma, more and more each day.

So cry me a river, and wash my blues away.

I’ve got you, momma, all wrapped up in me.

Well, I'm gonna come out grinning, if I have to turn the whole world upside down.

I woke up early in the morning, and I saw it was still dark outside.

I woke up early in the morning, and I saw it was still dark outside.

When that big sun starts shining there'll be no place for my dark to hide.

I couldn't get off on Sunday, they said it ain't good for your health.

I couldn't get off on Sunday, they said it ain't good for your health.

Well, I'm gonna light that fire, if I have to do it all by myself.

What Happens After Love?

Can anybody tell me, what happens after love?

Is there a hell below us, or is there a heaven above?

As sure as it began, someday it's bound to end,

and I wanta know, what happens after love?

Can anybody tell me, where do your feelings go?

After climbing so high, we always seem to fall so low.

But even that won't last - it fades into the past,

and I wanta know, what happens after love?

Can anybody tell me, how to fix a broken heart?

Can it be recycled, or is it just a worn out part?

Why give it time to mend, only to break again?

Well, I wanta know, what happens after love?

What's The Hurry?

Words and music copyright ã 1986 by Ram Sudama

<capo 5>

            C         F          C         G7       C         G7

            Am      F          Am      F          Am      F          G7

Hey there, mama, slow it down, now get your feet back on the ground.

What's the hurry? I got nowhere to go.

Can't see why you run so fast, the first one there will come back last.

So, what's the hurry? I got nowhere to go.

You can set me in the street, but that don't mean I'll move my feet.

What's the hurry? I got nowhere to go.

Take a freight train, take a bus, but don't take me with all that fuss.

What's the hurry? I got nowhere to go.

Catch a big plane in the sky, but I can't even catch a fly.

So, what's the hurry? I got nowhere to go.

Hey there, mama, what's the rush? Your speed would make a bulldog blush.

What's the hurry? I got nowhere to go.

Hey there, mama, take your time. If you need more, take some of mine.

What's the hurry? I got nowhere to go.

A                                         D

You like to think that you’re a rebel in disguise,

but I can see right through you just by looking in your eyes.

If I ever start to say it like it’s really meant to be

will any of you still be out there listening to me?

A                   D                D+G     D+F#    D+E

If I was really different than what you’re used to?

If I was really different than what you’re used to?

When The Pond Roars

Words and music copyright ã 1984 by Ram Sudama

<capo 1>

verse:             G         C G D  Em      C D

                        Bm      C Em Am        C         D

chorus:           C         D         G         Em

                        Fmaj7  C         D

[verse] When the pond roars, and the leaves are frozen,

and the silver moon is dozing,

then everyone who knows Him is leaving for the Lord.

They're adrift now, on a sea of pleasure,

with another storm to weather,

and they're carrying a golden treasure, but they don't know what's on board.

[chorus] I hear people saying that they've found a better way.

Well, everybody seems to know but me.

If it's so, I'll turn my boat and sail the other way,

but I won't believe it til I see.

[verse]  Hey, children, look around you.

The morning light has found you.

And you don't know where you're bound to, but you're on the road at last.

There's a pathway, it's straight and narrow,

going forward like an arrow

but if you aren't aware, oh, you may get there too fast.

            A         G         D

            A         G         D

            G D     A         G         D

            G D     A         G         D

When we are in devotion, we are so happy.

When we are in devotion, we are so stable.

When we are in devotion, we are united.

When we are in devotion, we are so secure.

When we are in devotion, we are so brave.

When we are in devotion, we are no more afraid.

When we are in devotion, we are so grateful.

When we are in devotion, we are so blessed.

So devotion, it's our way, oh, devotion.

It's our way, oh, devotion. It's our only way.

So sing the glory of Divine in deep devotion.

Yes, sing the glory of Divine in deep devotion.

Who Am I?

Words and music copyright ã 1985 by Ram Sudama

<capo 2>

            C         Em      Am      Dm      G

            C         Em      Am      Dm      G

            F          G         Am      F          G

            F          G         Am      F          G         C

I've heard tales of a far off land where people don't seem to understand.

They're really not so different from here. They live from day to day and hide the fear.

But we've been taught to think they're not the same, so we could have somebody else to blame.

Well, who am I, and how am I to know? Why should I believe it isn't so?

We say they want to conquer everyone. They say we would sell our only son.

We say they're not worshipping the Lord. They say we don't care about the poor.

We say all the people there are slaves. They say all our leaders are depraved.

Well, who am I, and how am I to feel, when everything that's said is so unreal?

No one will ever win this endless race, that never brings the runners face to face.

At first we thought that it was just a game, but those that play it slowly go insane.

For years we built those horrible machines. Now they've become the monsters in our dreams.

Well, who am I, and how am I to see, that all this won't be happening to me?

Well, who am I, and how am I to tell, that we won't all be waking up in hell?

Finally it really came to pass. The whole world was shaken by the blast.

Human bodies turned to bloody mounds, like faded roses splattered on the ground,

soaking in the ruins of our lives, and staining even those who did survive.

Well, who am I, who am I to say, that won't be the news I hear today?

Why Is Love So Hard?

Words and music copyright ã 1995 by Ram Sudama

verse:              E          A         E          A

                        E          A         E          A

chorus:            D         C   G   Am      Am

                        D         C   G   Am      Am

                        D         C   G   Am      Am

                        D         C   G   Bb       Bb

She wanted to love him and put him in her dreams.

But she had to forget him, cause he was 17.

She was a woman, and he was just a boy.

People would think she was playing with a toy.

Why is love so hard? What makes it come apart?

Why is love so hard?

She met him in London, she thought he was a man.

They went off together for a day in Amsterdam.

They didn’t go that far, but it was far enough

for a boy and a woman to think they were in love.

<chorus>

            Am                  C         D

The colors of your love have got me // spinning rainbows in my mind and

if the sun should set before the // day is over I’ll be blinded

by the darkness falling faster // than my tears are calling out for

someone just like you to set me // free and make me do it all

again and that would be too much // to bear so leave it I don’t care it’s

You Stole My Heart Away

Words and music copyright ã 1978 by Ram Sudama

<capo 2>

verse:              C         Am      F          G         '/,

                        C         C7

chorus:            F          F7        Fm       Fm(maj7)

                        C         C7

                        F          F7        Fm       F#7

                        G         G#       G7

[verse]  Whenever I see you, I want to shut my eyes. I'd like to lay down and die,

because you stole my heart away.

Whenever I hear you, I want to stop my ears. It brings me so close to tears,

because you stole my heart away.

[chorus] When I first met you, I thought I could get you everything that you'd ever need.

But though I kept hoping, and my heart was open,

you left my open wounds just to bleed.

[verse] Whenever I smell you, I want to hold my nose. I think of all my woes,

because you stole my heart away.

Whenever I'm near you, I want to run and hide. It hurts me so bad inside,

because you stole my heart away.

[chorus] The way that you took me, I can't tell how it shook me,

and left my lonely heart filled with pain.

You spurned my affection, but I've burned my dejection,

and I never want to go back again.

[verse]  Whenever I see you, I want to shut my eyes. I'd like to lay down and die,

because you stole my heart away.

You're Not For Me

Words and music copyright ã 1985 by Ram Sudama

verse:              D         D         G         D

                        G         E7        D         Bm

                        G         A         G         D

chorus:            G         D         G         A         D

                        G         D         E7        Asus4

[verse]  I can't buy you sofas or TV's. My world doesn't make no guarantees.

All you can be sure of is that I'll give you my pure love.

And if that ain't enough, you're not for me.

[verse]  I know there must be better men to see, with wavy hair, and dressed up to a T.

All I can provide you is a good heart to be tied to.

And if that ain't enough, you're not for me.

[chorus] You said that you need someone to take you by the hand,

and make you feel like everybody should.

Well, I'm not sure that I'm the one to walk you in the sun.

But if you really want me to, I would.

[verse]  A sailor, he might take you 'cross the sea. A cowboy'd like to break you forcefully.

Well, I don't want to harm you, even frighten or alarm you.

And if that ain't enough, you're not for me.

<chorus>

[verse]  A wealthy man will get down on his knees, and promise everything he can to please.

Well, I ain't got much money, but I'll call you 'Sugar Honey'.

And if that ain't enough, you're not for me.

'Cause all you can be sure of is that I'll give you my pure love.

And if that ain't enough, you're not for me.
